Description The Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala seeks to recruit a Programme Officer – Statistics & Economic Diplomacy to support its implementation of Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) on statistics, a partnership between Statistics Denmark and the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS). In addition, the Programme Officer will support the Embassy’s work on economic diplomacy, trade and investment, as part of the Embassy’s “Green Economy & Climate” Team. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and results-oriented professional who can: 1) drive and spark the interest for statistics and data-driven high-level decision making as well as 2) support commercial Danish interests and investments in Uganda, as part of the economic diplomacy efforts of the Embassy. If you have experience and general understanding of national statistical production and the importance of official statistics for economic and social planning particularly, for environment and climate change, and interest in trade and commercial development, then we would like to hear from you! You will be part of the Embassy’s “Green Economy & Climate” Team and will report on a daily basis to the Embassy in Kampala. You will work closely with Statistics Denmark in Copenhagen. Candidates should have a solid understanding of national statistical systems and the role of official statistics in economic and social planning, particularly in relation to environment and climate change. An interest in trade, investment, and private sector development is also important. The Programme Officer will be part of the Embassy’s “Green Economy & Climate” team, reporting to the Embassy in Kampala, and will work closely with Statistics Denmark in Copenhagen. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting the Embassy of Denmark and Statistics Denmark with the planning and implementation of the Strategic Sector Cooperation project activities in close cooperation with Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Maintaining and developing a strategic network and overview of developments in relevant parts of government and government bodies Preparing and facilitating incoming visits from Statistics Denmark and other relevant institutions to Uganda Providing regular monitoring and reporting on project activities in close collaboration with the project management team in Statistics Denmark Supporting the activities of the Embassy on economic diplomacy, trade and investments promotion, and particularly in relation to green/climate technology Assisting with any other tasks as instructed by the Embassy Management Qualifications, Skills and Experience: A Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics or similar Previous experience working with international projects and with multiple stakeholders Previous experience working with climate or environmental issues A strong network in the Ugandan Public Sector within the climate and environmental sector is an added advantage Strong analytical and strategic mindset Working experience with private sector promotion, trade and investment is an advantage Knowledge of the National Statistical System, would also be an added advantage Full IT-proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite Ability to make professional presentations, reports and minor analysis A proactive, creative, outgoing, self-driven person with the ability to work both independently, and as an enthusiastic team player Excellent command of English – both written and oral What We Offer: An exciting role with real responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact partnership between Denmark and Uganda A high degree of autonomy, with flexibility to shape your work and manage your priorities A collaborative and supportive team environment with engaged colleagues A 37-hour work week and a competitive salary package, including pension and health insurance An initial 12-month contract during the inception phase of the Strategic Sector Cooperation, with the possibility of extension.
